Jan Bons (1918-2012)

Last week, one of the truly original voices in Dutch graphic design, Jan Bons, has passed away at the age of 94. Bons was well known in The Netherlands for his collaged posters made up out of torn strips and shapes of paper. This remarkable way of working was his trademark since the late forties, after meeting Willem Sandberg – a legendary Stedelijk Museum director and graphic designer, who railed against the elitism and slick look of contemporary art museums.

Robert Davidson

Richard Davidson (b. 1946) is a Canadian/Northwest coast native artist of Haida and Tlingit descent. He works in a variety of media, including printmaking, painting, sculpture and jewelry, besides being a master carver of totem poles and masks. Although his work is based on the traditional Haida form, Davidson reinterprets this style in a highly personal and post-modern way, veering between traditional stylizations of mythical creatures as well as nonrepresentational hard-edge abstractions.
